Mianus River Park
Private Client

The Mianus River Park is a beautiful 400-acre recreational treasure in Stamford and Greenwich, Connecticut. The Mianus River, a coldwater trout fishery, threads through the middle of the park, which is full of wildlife, dense forest, and colonial-era stone walls. In this highly developed area of Connecticut, the Mianus River Park has become so much of a refuge that overuse has caused significant damage. Because of increasing ecological strain and degradation of the park, the City of Stamford, in tandem with Trout Unlimited, turned to One Nature as prime consultant for the project for a park restoration plan and parking study, conducted in 2012-13, to restore the environmental health of this valuable natural preserve. After a year of analysis, One Nature designed a long-term master plan that integrates human use of the park with regenerative and sustainable ecological practices. The following year the City found money to build the first phase of our plan: a reconstructed park entryway and parking area equipped with green infrastructure technologies such as: bioswales, permeable pavers, and vegetated filter strips. Hudson Land Design served as the engineering subconsultant for design support on the parking area and for the green infrastructure stormwater management features.
